Ashley Howell
Ph.D.
Welcome! My name is Ashley Howell, Ph.D., and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I specialize in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders (i.e., social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, and panic disorder) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I am also experienced in therapy for insomnia.
My therapeutic orientation is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, which is an evidence-based psychotherapy for many (but not all) psychological disorders and emotional wellness concerns.
What’s CBT?
The "C" in CBT refers to the ways in which we think about ourselves, others, and the world. How we consciously and unconsciously think determines all of the emotions that we feel in our minds and bodies!
The "B" in CBT refers to changing specific behaviors and habits that are preventing you from feeling better and possibly making your symptoms worse, such as unhealthy coping habits and avoidance.
Through CBT, our goal will be to work together to replace those unhealthy thinking and behavior habits with healthy thinking and behavior habits, which will lead to greater emotional and functional well-being. This is done by developing new skills each session and then practicing those skills in-between our sessions.
By working with me, I can assure to you: (a) in-depth assessment to understand your symptoms, goals, and treatment needs; (b) diagnostic feedback and recommendations; (c) collaborative treatment planning that is tailored specifically to you, or a tailored referral if needed; (d) collaborative therapy that involves encouragement, accountability, communication, and trust. I would be honored to work with you toward your goals.
